The Unit question of Grade 6 CT project is “How can you make use of computer applications to educate your community about environmental issues?”. In CT, we cover six components of the design cycle:
A: Investigate – Students will investigate different ways in which computer technology can help to educate their community about environmental issues. A design brief will then be constructed with a clear statement of what the student is required to complete. A design specification will then be written which is a list of criteria that the intended project must be able to do. Students will also investigate current designs that are available commercially. These will give a good insight and some inspiration for their design ideas.
B: Design – Students will consider the components required and then create 2 different possible design solutions (story boards) as well as a final chosen solution. Once the final design is decided a template and small prototype will be created to showcase the idea.
C: Plan - Students will create action plan and use project management techniques to assist in the development of their project using a step by step plan, this will include instructions, assets needed and an estimated time for each step.
D: Create – Students will create their product. Students will be expected to use their final design idea and plan to help guide them through the creation process.
E: Evaluate – Students will reflect on each stage of the design cycle and write an evaluation commenting on the on-going nature of their design project. A final evaluation will also be written which comments of the success of the final solution when measured against the initial design specification.
F: Attitudes in Technology – Students will also be assessed in their attitudes in technology, which focus on the presentation of a design folder, their personal engagement during the project, and attitudes towards lesson participation, co-operation and respect for others.
